A Press Release dated 19th November 2020 (“Press Release”), issued by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, invited objections and suggestions, if any, from the stakeholders on the draft rules under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. The deadline for the same was 45 days starting the date of notification of the draft rules in the gazette.
We, at Centre for Labour Laws (“CLL”), National Law Institute University, Bhopal (“NLIU”), strive to play our part in raising awareness among the labourers about their rights and responsibilities under the legal regime governing them. We would like to express our appreciation for the step of Public Consultation which is taken for the involvement of stakeholders in this process of reforming the legislative framework governing labourers and employees in the country. The consolidation of all existing legislations into four distinct codes and the resultant simplification of laws will certainly go a long way in bringing about the much-needed reform for both employers and employees. In view of our vision & objectives, we submitted the Objections/Suggestions/Comments to the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.
The document was submitted to the Ministry by Mr. Aabir Bhattacharya, a member of the Centre, who went in person to hand over the same to the concerned officials. This endeavour of the centre is a live example that CLL not only focuses on being an academic Centre but also mindful of its obligations towards the society & nation at large. We will keep trying to fulfil the same with the equal amount of zeal, enthusiasm, and dedication for the times to come.
