Instructions for registering for the e-Shram Portal

Team CLL

The e-shram Portal has been developed for registration of unorganized workers into the National Database for Unorganized Workers (NDUW). You can read more about the e-Shram Portal here. These same instructions in Hindi can be found here.

Registration for the e-shram Portal is very simple, and workers may register on their own online, at the website of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Before getting started, a few things must be kept in mind.

  1. The worker must not be below the age of 16, or above the age of 59.
  2. The worker must not be paying income tax
  3. The worker must not be a member of Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) or the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

If the worker falls in all of the above categories, they may register.

Steps –

  1. Go to the website of the e-shram portal – located here.
    • If the worker is confused, they may register through Common Services Portal (CSC). They may approach their nearby CSC center using this tool.
  2. Registration can be done by yourself online, or through CSC Digital Seva, which can be found on the page of the portal itself.
  3. In both the cases, first enter your Aadhaar linked mobile number in the first field, and fill the CAPTCHA code that is presented.
  4. Once done, click on “Send OTP” to receive an OTP on the registered mobile number. Enter this OTP in the field. Do not close the window or try to go back!
  5. Next, the portal will ask for the worker’s Aadhaar number. For the purpose of e-KYC, please select between Fingerprint, Iris (eyes) and OTP. If you have not done this registration through CSC, please choose OTP as you may not have access to the right equipment for fingerprints or Iris.
  6. After this step, personal information needs to be filled. All information that is already linked to Aadhar will be automatically filled. It is highly recommended you go to a nearby CSC to ensure there is no mistake in this step.
  7. It is not necessary to upload your education, income or occupation certificates. If you do not have these, do not worry!
  8. If a bank account is linked to your Aadhar, it is not necessary to register it now. If the bank account is not linked, you will need to enter the bank account details as indicated.
  9. Lastly, you will be presented with a preview of all the information you have presented so far. Be sure to read it thoroughly and ensure there are no mistakes.
  10. Finally, if everything is correct, please tick the box in the Declaration after reading through it. An OTP will be sent again to your mobile phone, enter it in the last field.

After this, the registration is complete! You can download your e-Shram Card (UAN Card) from the top right. You may get a physical card from a CSC.
